Happy autumn eve! I’ve finally completed my self-imposed waiting period and in preparation for tomorrow’s autumnal equinox I’m decorating my living room and sharing pics of what I’ve made. My current favorites are the tiny pumpkins (above), made from the wool felt balls I’ve been gushing about in my last few posts. I included a couple of my sweater pumpkins in the pic so you have some idea just how small these are! What is it about tiny things that makes them exponentially more adorable?
I’m still collecting acorns, much to the entertainment of those around me, I’m sure. Last week, a fella watched me hunt and gather for a few moments, then asked me if I was collecting them to eat. I assured him the acorns I collect are only for decoration, but did spend a few minutes Googling the subject and was momentarily tempted to roast some. Instead I opted to paint my latest batch, coating their bodies with copper acrylic paint. Aren’t they pretty?
Last, but not least, is my mantel. Yes, those are wool felt balls, strung and hung as bunting, coupled with my newest addition: painted scraps of wood. Remember my neighbor’s fence project that left me with remnants the size of giant Scrabble tiles? I only had a handful left and thought they’d make the perfect canvas for fall colors spread across my mantel. Each is topped with a wooden spool and wire vines, so they’re reminiscent of wooden pumpkins, and decorated with ribbon and twine and other fall sundries I’ve collected over the years. The result is an eclectic little display that suits my living room well and kept me entertained while I was making them (what more can I ask?).
Happy fall, y’all!
Your creativity never fails to astound–and refresh–me. Fall is my favorite season, so I’m especially love all this.
