My favorite children’s book is Joseph Had a Little Overcoat, by Simms Taback. It’s an upcycler’s bible, showing how someone found a way to get use out of every last bit of something – in this instance his coat, which then becomes a jacket, then a vest, and so on, until it’s just a little button.
The bane and blessing of being a creative reuse artist is I see potential in everything. Right now, I’m eeking out the last bit of potential from broken bits of crayon, melting them into seasonal shapes – fall leaves, Christmas ornaments, etc.
They make great distractions for cranky guests (of any age) waiting for Thanksgiving dinner and are a unique stocking stuffing for people tired of buying plastic crap they’ll just end up stepping on or throwing away by New Year’s Day.
I sell some (comment on this post if you want some!) and I give some away, all while taking great joy in seeing these discarded odds and ends given one more life. Joseph had a little overcoat. Leah had a bazillion little crayons. What do you have?
Please let me see the upcycled crayons 4 sale & giveaways. Thanks.
Hi Jane! What you see pictured is what I have right now – fall and Christmas. I’m selling them one set for $2 or three sets for $5 (more than three, factor by multiples of 3 – ex: 6 sets $10, 9 sets $15). If you’re too far for a porch pick up, shipping has been averaging less than $5 for 3 to 6 sets, less than $8 for more. Let me know if you’d like some!
