Yesterday’s blog post was so brief, so simple, I almost didn’t hit “publish.” No meaningful metaphors, no aha moment, just an adult version of refrigerator art (look what I made!). It felt like it wasn’t enough to share . . . which is exactly what convinced me to share it, because I know better than to let imaginary measuring sticks tell me what’s “enough.”
Thank you for responding so enthusiastically to my virtual show-and-tell. I loved every single comment!
Here’s what I’m working on now.
I’m attempting embroidery for the first time since 7th grade. It’s amazing how much I remember (but thank goodness there are online tutorials for all that I don’t!). I appreciate having something I can pick up and put down without all the set up and clean up so many of my other projects require. I find the act of sewing meditative (well, except when the thread gets knotted), plus it meets the William Morris standard, resulting in creations that are both beautiful and useful (my favorite!)
Once again, no great insights to accompany this post, but maybe that’s a sign my mind is at rest – a gift of increased creativity?
When my eyesight was better and time was more flexible, I absolutely loved embroidery, starting around age eight. I especially enjoyed the intricate, complicated pieces, and gave a lot of Marbek Angels as gifts; also worked on church paraments (all that silk thread…). Needlepoint was good (only petit point), but embroidery was heavenly. I’m glad to see you’re needling away.
Marbek Angels are gorgeous! What lovely gifts they must have made. I’m looking for some pillow cases I can embroider the edges of – practical and beautiful projects!
The one with the peach looks suspiciously like a dice bag. Now I want an embroidered dice bag (all of mine are just black…boring). They look great, though.
You absolutely need an embroidered dice bag! I’ve been eye my Bag of Holding, wondering what I might stitch on that . . .
