When I wrote my last post, I had the best of intentions. I know I said I’d wait, but I should’ve known even the simplest fall craft would merely whet my appetite for more. Or maybe I can blame it on the acorns, which now seem to be jumping out of the trees to greet me. When I was walking on the Bellarmine campus I came across some huge acorn caps – at least three times the size of the ones I’ve been collecting (you can see both sizes in the picture above). Well they just happened to be a perfect fit for the next size of wool balls in my stash, so obviously they were meant for me.
But then I ran out of acorn caps and started scrolling Pinterest to look at other people’s creations, which is where I saw a picture of tiny clay pumpkins. I thought about how cute they’d be sitting next to the acorns and, before I knew it, I had enough fall fodder to adorn both my coffee table at home and my desk at work.
In case you’re curious, the tiny pumpkins are made of FIMO and start out looking like this.
A few coats of acrylic paint and they’re ready to join the wool ball acorns in my colorful collection that’s certain to grow during this three-day weekend.
One of my mother’s mantras in life (she didn’t have many) was: “Never say never.” I used to think that was just “motherism,” but I’ve learned that she was/is right. Don’t you really love those larger acorn caps? We have only a few of those around here, and I so enjoy bringing some home when I come across them in my walks. Your new small pumpkins are just the thing: perfect. It makes me happy to just look at your fall arrangement, especially since it’s my favorite season of the year. Thanks for good words and good views, Leah.
