I often wish my tiny house was larger – more room for guests, more room for creating things, more room for whatever. This time of year, most of all, I fantasize about having a home large enough to host an open house, with cider brewing on the stove, a touch of Christmas in every room, and tins filled with homemade Christmas cookies, ready for my guests to take home. It’s not a desire to show off so much as a wish to be known – the kind of familiarity that can only come when you let someone in your home.
I suppose, in a sense, that’s the reason I blog – a regular exercise in letting others in. Whether it’s for a holiday or special occasion, or just a Tuesday and I feel like talking, every time I write I’m channeling the ghost of Christmas present when he said, “Come in, come in and know me better!”
So, for all the friends I can’t fit into my house and for all my friends far away, welcome to my virtual open house. From my 20 year old Hallmark Christmas card holder (sitting beneath the wreath) to the stockings I cross-stitched when I was pregnant with each of my boys, these are some of the holiday sights I cherish most.
Advent blessings to you and yours!
You have a lovely home, regardless of size, and it also means you don’t have to clean as much square footage. Wherever YOU are is home enough, Leah, for those who know you; it’s not the space you occupy—your loving and caring heart is the home.
Oooh, my “heart is the home.” That has blog post potential! Thanks for your loving and lovely perspective. 🙂
